Monty Python’s Flying Circus, The Complete First Series

Monty Python's Flying Circus, circa 1969A couple of days ago I took a stroll down BTC, Ljubljana’s shopping centre (actually a “shopping city”, since the thing’s huge). Inevitably I found myself in the vicinity of BOF, and resistance was futile — to the monster selection of DVDs at discount prices.

One of the DVDs I bought, which I recommend heartily, is the first volume of the Monty Python’s Flying Circus, spanning the first season (1969!) of the most demented British show of all times. Pure genius, if you ask me.

Putting aside the DVD’s content for a while, I must say that this 2-disc set is very well produced. In addition to the now-standard audio options, it features twenty-four (24!!) subtitle languages, and get this, including quite passable Slovene and Spanish as well! The cherry on the top is that you can select directly each and every episode and sketch! Yay!

I decided to buy it not just because it sold for a good price (EUR 11), but also because I believe you should own the films or series which can put you in a good mood on a heartbeat. And even more so if it’s in original form, with jewel case, extras, subtitles and audio options!

I’ll be frank with you, though. Some time ago I had downloaded every single episode of every season of the Flying Circus — which I could not watch in its entirety, because the hard disc in which they lived went to meet its maker. So, when I saw this at BOF last Saturday, I didn’t have to think too much :-)

Without further ado, I give you two of my favourite sketches of this yet unmatched show:

The parody of “Election Night” 1970, as only the Pythons could do.
Yup, that’s the dead parrot sketch.
